Fuel is dripping from a tupe which appears to be an overflow or drain tube. Engine ran for a few minutes this morning. When I backed up, saw appx. 8 inch puddle of fuel on driveway. Can you tell me what that line is for and why fuel would be dripping from it. The tubing routes down from the area of the fuel filter. I've been trying to track down an intermitant problem with idle and acceleration. Feels like it's lacking fuel sometimes. Could this be related. Stuck at home now, so I could use some advice...Thx...Ron.
Are you talking about the fuel drain tube coming from the back of the filter housing? If so it sounds like the valve is slightly open somehow, I had a leak from the same place but it was the o-rings and it wasn't nearly as bad a leak as what you have. Look behing the filter and see if the yellow lever is all the way closed.
The yellow lever is to drain all of the fuel out of the bowl to change the filter. Fuel in the valley sounds like leaking o-rings like I had but in that case I wouldn't think the fuel would be coming out of the drain tube too. It also sounds like a lot bigger fuel leak than the o-rings would cause, I'm no expert by any means I just know that my o-rings just leaked into the valley and not enough to leave that big of a puddle on the ground.
The yellow lever is to drain your fuel filter bowl when you replace your fuel filter. The valve has 3 orings in it and over time, they fall apart and needs R&R. Easy fix. Here's what you need to fix it.
Thankyou Ponyboychris. Same pools and dripping as Ron. Puking in my mouth thinking about having to go to the dealership. Guys on here save me big money again. Guzzles o rings has very clear instructions and a good site.
Just ordered the o-rings. Stealership wanted $39.00 for the o-rings only. And more obviously for the valve assembly. Crazy! I had to laugh at the guy and asked him if he was sure that was the price for the o-rings only. Yep, sure was. I'll wait for them in the mail. What do you think about the fuel in the valley. It's not a lot, but there is a small amount pooled up there. Is is safe to drive like that?
Fuel in the valley may be coming from the small rubber tube between the fuel valve and hard line. When mine started leaking I just bought the bowl kit and replaced all the O rings and line gaskets. I think it's easier to remove the bowl than the drain lever, and I could clean the bowl better. there is a hole on the back side of the valley that will drain most of the fuel in the valley. Diesel is not all that easy to light. You could get away with running for a little while with a leak.A Curtis

You are welcome. I just did this procedure last weekend. Took me about 20 minutes to swap o-rings on the drain valve and clean up. I had an extra drain valve so I did the R&R on the workbench and will swap drain valves out on the truck when the weather gets warmer. I don't have a leak (yet) but figured that I should do this as a preventative maintenance move.
Guzzle (Bob) has great customer service and turn times on his stuff.
