dent sides

currently i have a 1968 f250. i love my truck but it lacks power steering, power brakes, and a/c. i tried to find parts but so far it was unsucessful. the only thing i can find in my area are trucks that are fully drivable and they are wanting $1500+ or the truck is already stripped of the parts that i am looking for. i decided to sell the one i have and look for a truck that has more of what i was looking for. i came across a 1979 f100 and i really liked the way it looked. i'm really digging the grill. has anyone around here went from a bump side to a dent? i just recently gotten into ford trucks (only had my 68 for a little over a year) so everything i know if basically what i've come acrossed with my 68. i'm guessing its a totally different experiance having a 68 opposed to a 79. anything i should look for, be aware of?

you cant go wrong with any 79 ford truck model. There are no issues to beware of, maybe a few small inadequacies with 351m/400 (still really good engines), unless i missed somthing, thats about it. That truck looks like a winner.

I have owned both a 79 F100 and a 68 F100 both 2 wheel drive. Honestly there wasn't that much difference between the two. The 79 had power disc brakes. The 68 will have more power and get better milage if they are both in stock form due to all the emissions laws that came about between 68 and 79. Another thing to consider if you live in a smog state it the 68 will be a lot easier to deal with as it will have not cats or egr and be totally exempt any where I have heard of. I would keep your F250, my 68 was power nothin and a three on the tree it was funny watching other people my age try to drive it, most of them thought it was broken. I will say one thing about my 79 F100 it was soft and really not built to haul any thing.

Lets see... I just picked up my first dentside in Nov so I can tell you what I have discovered. Rust in the floorpans, cab corners, driprails, doorseams. Check for that. Rigged wiring, wore out carb, and brake booster/MC issues. Old break lines and wore out UV joints. Now understand I LOVE working on my dent!! And I expected most of these issues before I bought it so DO NOT let that discourage you. Plus there is an umlimited amount of knowladge in this fourm.

hopw much do they usually go for. i 've been told with the bump sides that 2000$ is usually the most you can get for a decent truck but i'm not sure about dents.

looks like youve found yourself a solid base to go off of. as stated, be aware of floor pan rust, and less than stock wiring. rear cab corners are also a breeding ground for rust.

About the same for a 2x4 but 4x4 can go for as much as $5k for a nice one around here.

i live in california so smog is an issue. i was even thing of getting a 1975 because thats the cut off for smog exempt. i just really like the grill of the 78-79.my main thing was to find something that had ps, a/c, and to a lesser extend pb. i wanted to also go from a
f250 to a f100. i don't haul anything (nothing big at least), i just love the look of old ford trucks. better milage would be nice but gaining or loosing a few mpg doesn't matter. i get 10mpg right now so getting 8 or 12 won't effect me that much.

get a 75 or older dent, and then put the 78/79 grill in it. they are an exact replacement. just have to get the bevels for the round head lights. not hard to find.

i was thinking of doing that but i wasn't sure if it was possible. there is a 1975 f150 for sale for about the same price. i'd rather get that one and change the grill. i tried emailing the guy, just waiting for a response.
this is the 1975 that i found:
