Ok guys.I have a question that I hope you can help me with.
I have a project it is a 1964 f250 that I have a 5.9 cummins and an Allison 4 speed auto.My problem is I need a MILD gear ratio.I have a 3.73 now and need like a 3.08 or 3.23.
I was told that the 85 or so diesel trucks could come with something close to 3.08.My problem is that no parts books show new gears for this mild application.
So if anyone has information about what application exactly to look for I would appreciate the info.Or if anyone would have one for sale anywhere near southern Indiana I would be interested.
It does not matter if it is a dana 60 or 10.25.I will make it work for my project as so far EVERYTHING else has been modified anyway.
Thanks much!
You could try a Dana 61 - 3.07 gear ratio, factory Dana 60s were not designed to hold 3.07 gears, so they made a Dana 61 - slight changes to handle the gear set. I believe they were more common in Dodge's but I think they were also used in fords.
I think a 10.25 went down to a 3.08. You might want to try Randy's Ring and Pinion. They have a lot of knowledge/parts.
yea I called them but the mildest they went in the book was 3.54 on 60 and 10.25.
I will call around today local for the 61.I wish I knew what application that came in for the 3.07...Even the good gear shop locally could not help.
Randy's listed some Dana 61 applications. They came in Dodges and some ford vans. You might be able to make a Dodge one work if you re weld the spring perches.
It's going to be hard to find a factory rearend with a 3.08 or 3.07 gear. You will probably have to find the proper rear, and then install the gears from the aftermarket. You might be able to find a rearend from a Dodge pickup that had the Cummins originally. I don't know how low they are, but you would think they would have had a rear that was more compatible with the Cummins diesel.
I don't mind re welding perches etc.that is easy stuff.I just need to find a diff that has the option to have the ratio and a source of the correct ratio.
