engine identification

I have a motor I am trying to identify. It is out of a 1974 F250 camper special 2wd. From the best I can tell the numbers casted in the block are c7 o1f? I found them looking at the motor on the right side front. On the same side on the back of the motor I found oJ1 96087 stamped in the block. The head number is a c5aeh. I know the codes somewhat about date identification, but how do I identify the block to what it is. Also the valve covers are a 5 bolt round cover. Thanks

i think that head casting number is a 390, but it could be a 360 also, someone esle should be along to confirm or correct this

It's an FE 360/390, most likely a 390 in camper special.

Thanks for the help. The casting numbers make no sense to me. But the books I have seem to be for the early models. Is it possible to have a ft block? Do I have to take the motor apart to determine the engine. What are some good books for identifying motors?

Just pull a plug out & put in a wood dowel into the cyl. measure the stroke IIRC should be over 3.75" for the 390. Sounds like a good combo. post some pict's in you intro thread.
