shifting problem, changed the '' nut sensor '' on timing gear
still on tach, pulled the sensor on the rear diff. cleaned it off -nothing
i have read ,there is a maxifuse under the hood, by the drivers side. there is no fuse box there, there are wires with what look like relays at the end just laying there, Now there might have been a box they went into before i got this truck ,ANY WAY what should i look for, does anyone have a picture, is there a part#
thank you in advance
I know absolutly nothing about the E40D trannys, but I know that a lot of times the guys have to clean all the connections and grounds and use dielectric grease on them once in awhile, as sometimes the terminals get a little corrosion in them.
The 90 didn't have an underhood fuse panel. They didn't come along until a couple of years later. I'm like Star I don't know squat about autos, but there have been several posts about having to unhook the wiring harness from the tranny and cleaning the connector. They say to becareful when unhooking the harness from the tranny, don't pry it with a screw driver as the connector will break. David85 knows the E4OD, search some of his posts.
thanks for the in -put, ya, there is know fuse plael like that pic under my hood, starting to rain here in nj. can't lay on the ground to check the connection on tranny right now.
the first thing you have to do is get a tach signal.
according to the 88 service manual, there is a 10 amp fuse in the tach circuit called a warning lamp fuse.#18, outside bottom left, second one under the turn signal flasher.
check it with a test light. if the light lights up when you touch both shiny spots on top of the fuse, it is good.
go outside to the tack sensor, and check the truck side wires going to it. one is ground, the other should have power with the key in run position. if you have power, the sensor is no good. if no power, then it is inside the truck, and probably the tach is bad.
i hear ya on that.
i was gonna go test the procedure on the 88 till i looked out the window and could not see the truck 8 feet away from the window due to the heavy rain.
and ya can call me tom.
are you a member of the new jersey chapter yet??
just don't let that there new chapter leader know ya are on a first name basis with me, cause he is one strange duck and may give ya a hard time.
