Old Horse Coming out of Retirement-Need some Guidance

Morning World,

I just took ownership of a 89 F-250 with 60k original miles. Its been under a shed in AR for the past three years, as the previous owners left it there when they went into a nursing home. It was delivered on my sons car hauler, with a dead battery and looking forlorn, but I think she has promise.

Can you offer me some advice on where to start as I try to rehab her back to life. I'm guessing to start:

drain the fuel tanks (gas engine btw)
new fuel filter
oil/filter

How can I check/clean the injectors?

Any and all advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

Bob

Yeah give it a complete tunup with new plugs and wires, change all fluids and filters, and try to find some injector cleaner for it. The stuff that works the best will come in a presurized can with a hose that attaches directly to the fuel rail, you then remove the fuel pump fuse and run the motor on the can until it quits. From what I understand it is available at auto parts stores but you'll have to look around.

This is very important. DO NOT DO ANYTHING until you post some pics of the truck.

We like pics.

brake lines checked and brake fluid changed.

the brake calipers and rotors and maybe back brakes will all need to be looked at and probably rebuilt.

this truck will have many small leaks and problems.

vehicles do not like to sit very long.

while you have the plugs out, not a bad idea to squirt some oil in the cylinders. If the rings are stuck, this could help it turn over and prevent any broken rings or cylinder wall damage.

Thanks guys, you've given me some great pointers. Worked most of the day on it and hoping that in the next few days I'll have it running. The wife asked me yesterday, "Can I work on the inside while you work on getting it running?" She did a great job getting all of the strange and curious stuff out of the cab, including something that appeared to be a dog skull.
