I was scoping out a new truck, seeing how my tranny is dying, but surfing Ford's site I came across some options that I couldn't answer - rear axle ratios.
Man what the heck is all that about? There must have been 5 choices and anything but 3.55 was about a thou or so more. But 4.5, 3.73 8.8 in, 3.73 7 inch what the heck is all that about?

It's not all that complicated. If you have a 4-cyl., you get the 7". If you have the 6-cyl., you get the 8.8". The axle ratio will depend on how you're equipped; trailer-towing, 4x4 vs 2WD, tire size, etc. The 3.0 L is no longer available. It's all in the brochure.
