I have a 76 F100 4x4 and I'm hoping if someone can tell me what kind of wheel offest I need to run 35's. I asked about it in December but have not followed up as the shop has been crazy busy.
I was thinking of going with a 16 inch wheel to get a more old school look with the taller skinner truck tires. And a E load range too!
I'm running a 3 inch lift kit. Should I install a 4 inch?
I'm also hoping someone knows where I can buy a winch bumper. Or perhaps someone who can make one.
I'm in New Orleans and I'm tired of street flooding! I made a snorkel kit for my Perkins Diesel. I'll get some photos out soon.
We've had this truck since the the 70's and nothing is too good for my baby but I'm ready to make some mods.
Just an opinion... I'd go with chrome rims. The wheels for a 1/2 ton are almost endless. They get limited for a 3/4 ton. I think there is a 4" offset. Look/call around and get an idea of what's available. Better yet, go 'window shopping' - get booklets of the styles offered / take them home and find what tweeks you best. I'd get a set of 5 - when you do get new rims. From what you said, I'd be tempted to get 8" front, and 10" rear.
When you say 3 inch lift kit.....do you mean body lift? Wheel width and backspacing is just as important as tire height. My 79 F-250 had 36's when I got it, with no lift. They fit because the tires were only 9.00 inches wide and were mounted on stock 7" wheels. So, if you want to keep the tires off the sheet metal, I'd stick with 8" wheels with backspacing around 3.75 inches. But, they may rub the radius arm in sharp turns. Some 80's and early 90's model F-150's had factory 8" wheels that make a pretty good swap.
Also keep in mind that wheel offset and backspacing are 2 different things. For example, an 8" wheel with 4" backspacing would have a 0" offset. If it had a 4" offset, the wheel mounting surface would be even with the outside edge of the rim......almost like the front wheels on a dually. I'm in Hattiesburg, and I have a couple sets of wheels around here that I can get my hands on. Just give me an idea what you're looking for, and what your budget is....and I'll see what I can find.
go to 4wheelparts.com. under truck and suv parts, select wheels, bolt pattern (5x5.5) and minimum to maximum wheel diameters, then search. they have almost everything you can imagine. also, you only really need the stock off-set to put 35s on. a stock ride-height truck would swallow them whole with no rubbing. with your 3 inch lift, you could probably get as big as 38s with minimal, if any, rubbing.
That is good information. I have a 3 inch lift kit ( I think) as it's not stock heigth. It's not a body lift kit. I want to get wheels as stock looking as possible.
That's for the suggestion on the web site with the wheels.
I'm going outside to finally take some pictures! Thanks for all the help!!
I never thought of going with different size wheels front and rear. nother good idea!
