Very wrong.
I bet that side had a miss on it. AB is a split shot with a lot more cc's than the AA code injectors.
Or possibly, someone just swapped out the solenoid on that one with a junk yard one. That shouldn't hurt anything. If the whole injector is different then you really should have the right one in it.
You have to seperate the injector, and see which style plunger and barrels. The plungers are different from what i could see when i disassembled one of each. The nozzle may be different I'm honestly not sure. The power pistons are also different but you may not be able to tell that without measuring the two.The plungers on a splitshot have holes in the bottom.I believe this is to relieve initual(spelling?) pressure creating the "pilot shot" that the splits are known for.
Just got the passenger side injectors out. They are all AA stamped on the Solenoid. So as it stands I have 6 Original AA injectors, 1 AA from the dealership and 1 with the AB stamp.
Does anyone have instruction on the disassembly of the injectors? I would like to make sure I am running 8 AA's before I put it back together. Thank you for the help!
You need a clamp that goes in the holes on the bottom of the injector, then mounting in a vice. Then a big wrench to turn off the top half. You also need a tool to retorque everything back together. Jim sells both. Some guys take a nut breaker and grind it to fit the holes for vice mounting. It's really not hard once you've done them and have the tools.Jim may have the parts to convert the AB to an AA.
If you've gone this far you need to make that AB an AA. And there's a very high chance that the one replaced form the Dealer is junk causing the miss. Ford only sells reman injectors that already have 1/2 million miles on them, and some of their sources do a good job, some don't. MOST of the Ford Remans I get in here have not had their tolerances addressed, they just throw in new P&B and new Nozzle and send them back out.
I've had other customers with mixed injectors and the truck ran fine. Under normal fueling/driving, the flow will be very similar if there's just one AB. But I would definitely change it.
And I would NOT ever buy any injectors off eBay. That's where everyone unloads their junk.
I will make a tool or mod one to take the nozzle off and retorque it to feels just right. I don't feel like putting an injector back in that is wrong and I need the truck next week. Dang hard to find bits and pieces for these trucks here in BC.
