I have a 99 Taurus SE with 170k miles. Sometimes the driver's door locks for no reason whether the car is running or not. Sometimes it locks as I am trying to open the door. As I pull up on the outside handle, the door locks. Sometimes just the drivers door, sometimes all 4 doors lock. We leave all our vehicles unlocked with the keys in them, but not this car. It seems to have a mind of its own. Also the remote does not work. It only works for a few days then I have to reprogram it. What the hell?! I don't know much about the way power door locks work. I wonder if I should just pop the inner panel off and disconnect the driver's door lock.
Don't know about Taurus's, but a friend of mine had a Chrysler Concorde that did the same thing - locks would lock/unlock themselves for no reason periodically - the horn would go off and the trunklid would pop open every so often - all for no apparent reason...
Found out from a dealer mechanic that those cars have 15 individual computers in them and they each do different things - they don't necessarily communicate well with each other... The "body computer" on the Concorde was faulty and was causing all the "possessed" actions... It was buried, of course, took the guy at the dealership a while to dig it out and replace it...
Sounds like the security system module is starting to act up. My parents explorer acted like that and the module was found to be bad. It could also be your battery going bad. The newer f-150s act funny like that when the batteries start to get old.
