Engine computer wont hold memory

I have a 1996 f 150 with the 5.0 motor. Everything passes smog except it cannot connect to the computer. Took it to a guy and he said that after sitting the computer drops its memory every time. Anyone have any ideas? Ive been trying to find a computer at junk yards but no luck

It sounds to me like the tech doesn't know what he's doing. Either that or there is a wiring problem between the OBD-II connector and the computer.

if that fuse is good u have 3 more fuses to check some under hood by battery other under dash. Also check the obdII port for power u may have just a ground problem with port. check each pin with a simple test light u should have power at some ports with key off. the computer stores almost everything even after sitting the only way it should rest is to unhook battery for abit. if u do rest computer when you restart truck let motor idle tell warm so the computer can remap itself

Check for corrosion under your power box under the hood I have seen that happen before.
