Smile Help! Used wrong oil.

I put Quaker State 10w-30 made for gas engines into motor. It`s my wifes truck and she had only driven 44mi. She said it started and ran fine. I got home today and put in good ol` Shell Rotella 15w-40. Truck is 2000 F350 4x4 dually with 147,000mi.
Question:
Did I do any harm to my motor?
What else should I do? If anything.

Thanks, Kevin

I would say you are fine also for that few miles.

Fine

For that few of miles, I am sure you will be fine as well.

I have a friend here that was adding 10w30 car oil to his for over a year and not changing it as he had a bad leak, it kept on running........... Has 230k on it now and is happily not leaking on 15-40 rotella now.

Won't be a problem as long as you didn't work the engine for a long period of time, ie. towing a heavy load, which could put contaminates into the oil. You could say that you were doing an engine oil flush since you didn't have the oil in very long. You're good to go.

The only problem might be there's still a couple quarts of the old stuff floating around in there. If she's not towing heavy or really working the engine, she probably won't ever notice a thing. If she does notice anything unusual, just change the oil again.

The only thing this is going to cost you is oil, no harm to the engine.

Just change the oil and filter and you should be good to go!

doesn't it say in the manual that you can run 10-30 in certain temperatures?

Yes, but that's assuming it's a diesel rated oil. Gas motors don't have an HPOP that will shear and foam the oil, so there are certain additives missing.

I don't think that's a prob. at all. I know someone who has always used plain old 10W-30 in his diesel truck and I used to do it too w/out any issues.

30wt... not 10-30... and it still has to be diesel rated.
