Hey everyone. Im new to these forums, but not new to diesels. My first diesel was a 96 Chevy 6.5t... Big mistake... it was a 2500 extended cab long box. Nothing but issues, clutch, tcase, turbo, fuel computer, adn front end... Next was a 86 International bus with the 6.9... Still have that thing, its pretty sweet but doesnt get used much at all.
Now to my current rigs... Both are F250s.
Here is the first, 1988 F250, 146xxx miles, 2500 on bottom end, previous owner had a discruntal employee pour water in the oil and froze up one winter taking out the bearings. It has an 8 foot western Pro-Plow on the front, flatbed, and lots of rust.... I had to replace a ruty fuel line, both tanks, water pump, and the o-rings for the fuel heater. I also put on a wix one piece water seperator/fuel filter on it. I love these Internationals. I never have to plug it in, fires right up even when 25 below.
Next is an 86 F250. This truck was a STEAL!! Paid $1000 bucks for it, well basically 600 because i traded a snowmobile that i paid 400 for and put 200 into. This truck has 100500 miles on it, Was a 1 owner. Absolutely NO RUST. Has a wood floored flat bed, true dual stacks, new paint on body, frame, and wheels. They actually pulled the cab off the frame to paint it. New glow plugs, starter, injectors, pump, belts, alternater, batteries, filters, and a few other little things. The history on this truck is kinda cool. In 1989 the owner had Ford put the 7.3 IDI into her! I have the papers for this! I absolutely LOVE this truck.
These are all pretty crappy cell phone pics from the days i got both trucks. I will take some updated new ones tomorrow.
ya, i paid $3500 for the 88, with the plow. It is a little beat up and rusty, BUT the frame and drive train are good, well i think i am starting to have an issue with either the front diff or t-case.... When in 4 wheel drive it feels like it slips and catches every once in a while. Basically feels like a really really big bump...
Here are better pics of the 86. And no, it is not forsale, they were just in it still from picking it up. The stacks are stainless so i will be cleaning them up after it gets a little nicer out.
LOL, i completely agree, that chebby was a crap truck... The ball joints couldnt even last one winter!!! I have been having issues with the front end on my 88 F250, but i narrowed it down to a bad hub... It keeps unlocking under load in 4 wheel drive... but the problems i have been having with my 88 are due to age and normal wear parts going bad. Like the vacuum pump, water pump, and the front hub. Oh, and the normal o-rings in the fuel heater.
i dont remember what i have for tires, i know they are steeltex but cant remember the size. And all my joints are good, that is the first thing i checked. This thing has been a pusher since 99, and the joints have been holding up since. The lockout def let go. Its toast. Replacing it tomorrow.
I am still in the debate of putting a plow on the 86, or just pulling a trailer with a bobcat... Only thing i dont like about a plow on the 86 is it is so long.
