hey guys ima be rebuilding my 300 from my truck in a little while im just trying to gather some information.. the engine is from a 78 150 no cat and im just wondering when i start planing on the rebuild what stuff can i get to cheeply make this beast breath more? and also whats a good rebuild kit for this? thanks for the help in advance guys...
Hey there, I'm sure I'm just reminding you of something you already know, the search feature. It's all been covered many times, just choose your parameters/specs and search. Also the folks at Ford Six Performance/
Classic Inlines will be of great help. All good folks. OBCB
P.S. unless you just want to kick ideas back and forth. then lets do it.
yeah im kicking ideas here pretty much thinking outloud ahaha.. so what cheep bolt on horse power is out there thats worth it? should i make it breath or just add more fire? ive never touched a strait 6 before this truck i got im a little more at home with a twin cylinder racing mower engine ahaha.. ive done light v8 work some diesel work but generaly most of it is the same right?
well go to clifford performance. they make intakes and headers for the 300. do a single 2.5-3" exhaust or dual no more than 2.5". bigger carb obviously. better ignition stuff should help. if you ever go internal then go for the cam swap
You hit it right on the head, "Make it breath better". You can bolt on some and port some. Then you can go eat some v8s. Sounds like good fun to me!OBCB
wohoo v8 barbeque? ahaha its like makin a diesel run better make it breath lik a hog alright i can do that... so just so i know what would one of u guys pay for a hone? ima go up to the speed shop around the corner from my house and see if they can do block honing..
oh yeah i heard somewere about putting chevie rockers in there so instead of 6:1 its like 7:1 ratio is that true if so which rockers should i look for? or would the ones from a 350 sb work cause my freinds pulling a blown one out of his blazer..
Step two: Spend about a month (no exageration) doing research. Use the search function. Read. It's been covered many times. The good stuff is there...just read and take notes, copy and paste into a files, block, head, intakes, carbs, exhaust, etc.
Know the steps.
Step three: Research how to machine a block. Know what you need from a machinist, what to ask, what to tell him, prices.
Educate yourself about the process, every part of it. If not you're p...ing away your cash.
Sound words, sage advice. From someone who has been there and knows. Everyone here will help, but as F250restorer suggests-- do your home work, it will pay off in better understanding/knowledge of everythingm and most of all save you a bucket of time and money.OBCB
making a file like was mentioned above is great. get detailed on it. use the search engine on FTE to figure out what parts others have used, then use search features on other sites to determine their cost, exact parameters, etc. i personally liked using the wish list feature on sites like summitracing, jegs, etc. then you can save the part number, description, and cost. i used excel to start figuring out engine configuration options, prices, etc, that way i could figure out my build approach and budget properly.
thats a good idea thanks..i tend to write things down and take notes on some things.. u should see the repaire manual i have for my truck that i got like a month ago.... the notes section aint big enough to put all the stuff ima need in there ahaha... helps out when putting things back together..
