Installing driver's side door handle

I can't believe how ridiculous this is, I cannot get the handle installed right nor the locking bar attached. Is there any step by step instructions? I have read Chiltons and Haynes and as far as the go is unscrew take out install re screw, and thats not helping, how should i begin? I pulle the panel off the door and have the window all the way up, is there a simpler way? What am I doing wrong?

lets see... i have disassembled about 8 or 12 pairs of these things, and cant remember exactly how i did it. The exact assembly varies by year of build and by plant. essentially, you need to find the often yellow colored plastic clip that holds the linkage to the outside handle. rotate and "unclip" the retainer and slide the metal linkage out of the socket horizontally. same with the manual lock linkage.

LOL :)

Every time I work on automotive door stuff I see it as a puzzle/nightmare. :)

I always picture a group of people putting -a lot- of effort to make the holes
just barely big enough for the parts to fit through in a certain way and they
had no problem with the system requiring the parts having to be installed in
one certain order either. LOL :)

Just for us they did that. LOL :)
See it as a puzzle, you know can be solved, and have at it? :)
If what 78 posted helps you out, then you cheated. ;)

Are you installing the door handle, or installing the door handle mechanisim, or door lock cylinder?

does this help?

one correction to my schematic is that the yellow clip is usually on the end connecting to the inside/outside handles/locks, but not always.

Great diagram; reps sent. It's nice to see people go the extra mile to help someone out.
