Radios,keys,etc?

I thiught that I would take care of a coup[le of problems in one thread..
1. My radio has just eaten it's last CD..I'm getting tired of having to pull the radio and dig CD's out of it..I really don't want an aftermarket one and so went to Ebay and found several.. I kinda liked the one with the CD player and the tape player, as I still have a large number of cassettes.#400098249490.. Problem is that he is really proud of it.There are several others w/o the tape which is ok,but do they all work in our rigs.I know that they say so,but??

2. Backup keys. I really need a couple and are most of them good that are on there?

3. I also need a couple of clickers and where is a good place to get them online?

The radios from 99-04 are pretty much the same. In 2005 and up they differ enough that I would expect problems. Most all models should be interchangeable.

2. You can have keys to unlock the doors made anywhere. However I think all the Excursions came with PATS (chipped or transponders or what ever you want to call the anti theft system) So you will need two programmed keys to program the third. You can use non-PATS keys to do everything but start the truck.

3. Ebay is probably the best bet for OE style fobs. Ford should want $35-55 each, I've heard of them on ebay being $15-25.

Before going to the dealer for a PATS key call around to some area locksmiths. They can be half the price depending on the locksmith or the dealer.

Call around to some local salvage yards for the reciever. Some have them on the shelf, others may let you go into the yard and pull your own to save a little cash. It would also be easier to test the reciever at the salvage yard too.

As far as the key fobs. I don't know if they are all interchangeable. I thought that there were several types and not all of them were interchangeable, but I am not sure. Just something to think of. I am sure however that if you do a search there will be an answer. There is all sorts of good info here.
