I just bought an '06 SCrew Lariat, with 6 disc CD Stereo. I was poking around seeing what all I have (my last vehicle was a 1999 2WD Expi). I found these wires/cables under the passenger side rear seat where the jack is mounted. I guessing they are for a sub? The RCA style connectors have "Streetwires" printed on the connectors, so I'm guessing they are not factory. Any help would be appreciated. I'm not a stereo guy, but would like to I.D. these things.
that molex plug (plastic with three wires) looks like the plugs the used on amplified bazooka base tubes but could have just been for a smaller amp. I say small because that looks like 10ga wire. The rcas would be for the same reason (the adapter may still be behind the radio, if it has the stock radio). Not sure what that 1/4 in plug would be for unless there is an input on your radio. Again, not sure if you have the stock radio in the truck. You could put a test light on the blue wire when the radio is on and see if it still gets power. If the red does not have power they probably pulled the fuses. Just check up by the battery and see if there is extra wires up there. Thanks, Mike. By the way, nice looking truck, I like that burgundy. You may look behind the radio and find that there is adapter for an aux input also. Or hit the sat (or aux) button and see if it looks for other inputs.
It is the factory 6 disc stereo. When I hit the AUX button it says "NO AUX DEVICE" or something similar on the display. I just had the radio out on Friday hooking up the antanna cable for my Sirius Sportster 5, but didn't notice anything extra back there. I probably pull it again and look closely. I'll hit it with a meter as well.
Update #1: The oddball "Audio" jack cable comes out by the drivers right leg and had this bit of PCB on it.
The RED wire on the Molex connector goes to the positive on the battery. The black wire butt splices to a "woven" ground cable with clear insulation and is grounded under the sill plate of the passenger side rear door. The smaller blue wire on the molex connector doesn't go to anything.
The light purple and dk green wires (RCA connectors) are divided like a 115V extension cord. They are split at the end and spliced into a Yellow w/Red Stripe wire and a Purple w/White stripe wire in the bottom of the passenger side B pillar. Each of the RCA connectors have a leg going to the Y w/R stripe and the P w/W stripe.
I pulled the radio out and didn't see any wires of these colors going into the radio.
That still makes sense then. The red was the power for an amp, the black is the ground, the blue wire was probably plugged in to the blue wire on the back of the radio (amp remote turn on). The rca cables that are spliced were probably off of the back speakers and gave the audio input to whatever amplifier was back there (Y w/R stripe and the P w/W stripe sounds like speaker wires but I can not confirm those colors). I am still at a loss on the 1/4 plug though - the rest all makes sense. Thanks, Mike
