Well it appears I need a new steering box. I tried to adjust the screw with locking nut. only made it tighter to turn but still had the 5 degree on each side from center slop or dead section.
Any suggestions for finding a new box for cheap. It also looks like it is heavy so replacement tips would be cool too.

Are you certain that the 5* of play is in the box? Have you watched the pitman arm and tie rod when someone was cycling the wheel? Might be one, or all of the 4 tie rod end joints. Just a thought.
I would check all the front end components for play. Most likely its a combination of everything contributing (tie rod ends, ball joints ect),atleast in my case it was.II installed a red head steering box. They are on the west coast.Search this forum and you will find plenty threads on them.

I am with Rob,I bet you have more worn parts than just the s-box.I have been through this as well.New b-joints,pitman,tie rod and tightened the box.Tightening the box really helped mine....Remember if you tighten the box, make sure the wheel comes back on it's own when you make a turn.If you have to help it back,it is too tight.
