If it was the original engine in the highboy it is a 360 and the intake and carb had to have been swapped. So there is no telling what you have.

390 engines were not factory installed in any 4WD.

The ONLY V8 engine available in 1968/76 F100/250 4WD's was the 360 2V.

Since there is no such thing as a 360 4V, and 360's were not installed in anything other than 1968/76 F100/350's, the 4V manifold/carb is prolly from a 1965/71 Passenger Car.

NumberDummy, Ever heard why that was the case? Although true, it seems a stupid decision to put the less HP engine in the heavier trucks......Mayby decisions like that are why the big three are where they are at.....who know's. The only thing sillier in humiliation was a 300 inline (a stump puller, and good up to 50 mph) or to put a lame 302 in these beasts (4x4)...) Then the smog pumpers came...geesh. Weren't we lucky to get a 200 plus HP 460 we could rip from mom's car to put in our trucks? ..LOL. Look at a T'ota truck HP now vrs ...ford in the sixties.. Must be because of fuel injection... Read humer here please.

You could get a 390 2V (1968/76 F100/350) / 390 4V (1974/76 F100/350) / 460 4V (1973/79 F100/350), but not with 4WD.

1968/74 F100/250 4WD engines: The 240 I-6 was standard equipment, the 300 I-6 & 360 2V were optional / 1975/76 F100/250 4WD: The 300 I-6 was standard, the 360 2V was optional.

1977/79 F150/250 & 1979 F350 4WD engines: The 300 I-6 was standard, the 351M/400 were optional. The 240 was canceled after 1974.

The only 4WD vehicle available with a 302 engine prior to 1980 were 1969/77 Bronco's.

2007/ Toyota Tundra optional V8: DOHC 5.7L EFI all aluminum 32 valve: 367 gross HP.

Back in the 60's and early 70's it was mostly fleets that bought 4x4 such as fire departments and such. Most people bought trucks to haul over the highway and didn't want four wheel drive, it was more parts to fail, but they needed more power. No market for powerful 4x4's at the time, just 2wd trucks for the highway. Strange to us now but people looked at trucks differentely then. At least that is how my grandpa saw it.
