I just purchased a 2000 Ford excursion V10 yesterday, limited, 2wd w/ 108k miles on it. Truck is MINT. Perfect body, perfect interior, needs a good buff job, and a couple body moldings need to be restuck, but its great for a 2000.
Im a dodge guy, mainly a cummins guy, but I bought the truck for my wife and newborn daughter, I wasnt crazy about buying a gas truck, but the diesel trucks were either insanely priced for the crap condition they were in, or were in good shape, but the odometer had been tampered with or changed out.. I found this one private owned, and jumped on it.
I have outfitted it today with a superchips cortex. The excursion came with a intake I have never heard of, it looks like an older KN, but the filter is awfully small considering. Ive had great results with other V10 customers and the superchips cortex, so I decided to run it on my truck, BIG difference.
I am lowering it 3/5, 24s, Ypipe, FM70, 5" tip, Blacked out, harley front end/05 bumper, or just a 05 grill and bumper color matched, HIDs..
Now, on to the questions..
1. What gears does this truck have? 2wd 2000 Excursion
2. What brand synthetic are you guys having good results with?
3. What is the zookman (I think thats the spelling) mod?
4. What brand plugs/wires are you guys having good results with?
5. Cataletic convertor removal ok? or leave it alone? Dont want ricer sound, Dont want to deaf my kid..lol
1. What gears does this truck have? 2wd 2000 Excursion
If I had to guess, I would say 3.55 or 3.73. Get an OASIS through somebody on here.
2. What brand synthetic are you guys having good results with?
Always liked Mobil 1. Basically any good quality brand name oil will do. Just make sure you give it 5w-20 per OEM specs.
3. What is the zookman (I think thats the spelling) mod?
It's Zoodad, but basically you cut a hole in the radiator support piece right where the snout of the intake is to let in air from outside. Do a search, or Google it.
4. What brand plugs/wires are you guys having good results with? OEM.
5. Cataletic convertor removal ok? or leave it alone? Dont want ricer sound, Dont want to deaf my kid..lol Leave it. It's not that restrictive, and what you put out in the enviro is far worse, and I ain't a limp wristed greenie either, but leave it.
Has anyone had any good experiences with the E3 plugs in these v10s? I put them in just about everything down here, and they run phenominal!
Ill check out the zoodad mod.. Dont know if im going to do it just yet, but will definetly look into it..
Anything else I should know or do on this v10? Reason I ask is because when you buy a cummins, there is about 4 different things to remove or adjust to make it run better, or for longetivity of the motor.
I use motorcraft on all the diesel fords here, so that follows..
I will use the OE plugs for sure..
OE wires too? or does that make a difference?
Lemme know. Thanks!

Crack the hood open. You won't find any plug wires. lol When you change the plugs, just get new coil pack boots. Several of mine were split when I did plugs.
Use the OEM Motorcraft plugs.
I used more Mobile 1 during the one oil change that it was in there than when using the Motorcraft synthetic blend. Several others have posted the same thing. The Motorcraft 5w-20 is easy to find and is only like $3 a quart or $16 a 5+ quart jug so why not use it?
V10 Excursions came with either 3.73:1 or 4.30:1 gears. There is supposed to be a code on the sticker in the driver's door jam telling what gears you have but on some 2000 models, the spot is blank. (Like mine was.) If so, just go for a spin. If it's over 2,000 rpms at 60 mph then you have 4.30:1, if it's under 2k rpms at 60, then it's the 3.73:1.
Here's mine with the 4.30:1 gears:
Welcome to the board and come on by the Excursion sub-forum some time.
Thanks guys! I will be a regular on here, thats for sure.. Love the truck so far, this is my second one, I had a 05 6.0psd, but lost it in my divorce a few years back.. Didnt want another 6.0, and couldnt find an honest 7.3L..
lol on the wires, im a diesel nut, so, these v10s are a whole new ballgame to me...lol, guess its like when people ask me about spark plugs in diesels..lol...
is 87 octane savvy in these v10s? or is premium more preffered?

It gulps enough of the stuff down without having to spend extra on the high octane. Don't waste your money. They run fine on 87.

I am a new V10 owner, it is in a motorhome. My regular ride is a 6.0L PSD. My only comment is this: the owner's manual states 6 quart oil change, but it is actually more like 6.75 quarts of oil. I changed it when I bought it just going by the manual (stupid me). I thought I was burning oil, but in talking to the RV repair guys near where I store it, they said they always fill based on the dipstick, and V10s always take 6.5 to 6.75 quarts. Might save you some trouble...
Gave her a total buff job today.. This is the first time I think its been waxed and detailed for a good year or so, been sitting in a couple of older folks driveway..
