444 Gasser?

444 Gasser?
I seen once where a guy took a Ford 390 and made it into a 444, and I was wondering if any of you guys know how to do that? Cause mom has a 61 thunderbird, that I can have it I complete it, and I would like to tear that 390 out and repower it. Also like to put a diffrent transmission other than the one in it (Keeping it automatic) so what would be a good tranny? I just plan on making a tire squealing boat out of it. Thanks guys.

Those were excellent transmissions already. Jut make sure you try to find some type F trans fluid. C-6 transmissions will tolerate teh newer stuff after a ebuild but not the FMX or the C4. They almost never need to be rebuilt if you just keep the fluid full.
As for the engine, I've made the 390's so powerful before they would do wheel stands with nothing more than exhaust and carb upgrades. It doesn't need bored out.

Here in the Diesel forum we are Enthusiasts in general.
The people here have a wealth of knowledge that is not quite as common in the other FTE forums.
I've had so many gas vehicle answers from these diesel guys that the correct forum could not answer.
Go figure.

Its in here cause I want to make a 390 a 444 (Same CID as a Powerstroke) Plus it was a powerstroke guy who did it. And like William said, the Diesel Guys are smarter than all others.

Haha, no boo on your doug, its just fine to be confused. We are much more open in the OBS forum than the other ones. there are no jerks here.
Other forums will send you to the search menu, we probably have more topics on single things than any other forum on FTE. haha.

I wish I had a video camera when I had my last F350. It was a butt ugly primered dually 4 speed rwd, super swamper mudders on the rear, with a 4 barrel 390 in it. I was pulling a stump out of the yard with it once and was doing wheelies so high that the back bumper kept bouncing on the ground. It finally ripped the receiver hitch right off the frame. That thing was a tank and a half. It only got about 4-5 mpg so it had to go several years ago. It never let me down though.

I'll bet you would have liked seeing me roll round bales with my jeep too. It would crawl right up on top of them then was a balancing act across the pasture. Seriously. I really miss that thing.
