If still no power you need to check for power at the Lt. Blue/Red wire at the headlamp switch with it on, and turned to the left. If you got power there, then the problem is in the wiring between the clock and the headlamp switch.

If no power at the Lt. Blue/Red wire, at the headlamp switch, then most likely the headlamp switch is defective.
5 amp fuse is good.**** is turned all the way to the left, but not all the way so that the cargo light comes on.

There is power at the headlight switch. Checked all the wiring, everything is in electrical tape with the factory "bracelets" still attached.Nothing is cut or damaged.

When I chased the extension to the main harness plug behind the heater controls, the light blue/red wire has power at that main harness plug. But not at the extension. The black ground wire has no power, not at the extension, the clock,or the main harness plug. When should the black wire have power?

Black is the ground, it shouldn't have power.

To test the ground you need to hook your lamp in series.

Hook the lamp to the Lt. Green/Yellow stripe wire, (That one has 12v) then hook the other end of the lamp to the black wire. If it lights, the ground is good.

As for not having power all the way through to the clock on the Lt. Blue/Red wire, that suggests a bad wire in that harness extention, or broken or loose spade in one of the connectors. I would fix that problem and make sure all the wires are functioning correctly in the clock harness, then plug the clock in and see if that solves anything. It may not, the clock still might be bad, but it does seem like you have a wiring issue with the clock harness too, on the Lt Blue/Red wire at least.

Okay, thanks,I wasn't sure about the ground.

It's too dark now to check the wire, but i'll go out tomorrow and make sure the spade is in tightly and then re-check it.I'll post up the results when I get em.I really appreciate the help.

I'm goin out to the local yard this weekend for a new printed circuit,so I think to be safe i'm gonna look for another clock or two out of an 80-82 truck.

Don't forget to check out the broncos.

You may luck out and find a 1980 Bronco, or 1980 F-series with a clock and tach. and fix both your problems at the same time.

Yep,will do.Although I think most of the Broncos at my favorite are 8th gens.

Well,I went out and rechecked the connectors with the test light.I must've made a mistake last night cause the light blue/red wire is getting power to it.I took the clock apart and tested the wires to see if power was getting to the circuit board, and sure enough it was.So the problem has got to be one of those cylinder things or other funny little protrusions on the circuit board. It's such a shame, cause the clock looks mint.Oh well,i'll pick up another one on Friday. Thanks for all the help everybody.Hopefully the next clock will work, but i'm not getting my hopes up.Thanks again.

Can someone tell me the location of the entry point of the extension harness into the dash?

Jim,

Thank you for your crystal clear explanation above. ...got the job done with your help.
(Made up a harness for less than $3 with some 14 awg. wire using these as perfect-fit terminals, and no cutting)

On 1980-1982 clocks, you pull the date or time buttons out, (Just like on a push button radio) to set them. Make sure that the date, and Time buttons are not pulled out at the same time. Press on them to make sure they are engaged. Having both pulled out will make the clock read all 88:88 's or malfunction.

1983-1986 clocks are different and are not set or work like above. (Mentioning this to try and eliminate confusion if people were wondering) [/QUOTE]

How does the 86 clock work for setting the time and date??
