I'm curious as to how a 2wd frame from a 73 f250 would compare to the same year f250 that is 4wd in terms of strength(if anybody knows) any comments on the subject would be great, thanks
I don't have any official figures but the strength should be relatively the same as both pickups would have approx the same GVWR.
A 250's a 250's a 250...
There are differences. The 4x4 frame is reinforced differently and it's taller and a little wider. The Parts book shows different ratings on various frames. If you think about it, the 4x4 needs to be stronger because it is prone to twisting and flexing from off-road driving conditions, etc. which causes the frame to be stressed unlike a standard 2wd would be. I think that the average person will never see or be able to quantify a difference.
Why is it that you were thinking about this issue anyway? If your thinking what I think your thinking then I'll say this: The 2wd and 4wd frames are quite unique, such that if your building one or the other you should get the proper frame to start with. Re-inventing the wheel is not cost effective.
