coolant dilema

coolant dilema

I have a 1989 F250 with the 7.3 IDI with a Banks turbo the problem Im having is trying to figure wich coolant to use . The coolant system was extermly rusty Ive replaced the thermostat and water pump flushed the system and ran distiled water and pencool heavy duty flush for a month and just emptyed the system again . The system is clean and Im ready to use some coolant ?

Green or orange is fine. Just don't ever mix the two.

i just use whats cheaper which surprisingly is normally prestone full strength green do 50/50 mix myself and get two jugs outta one. And i second don't mix it. had a friend do it once and it turned to jelly like.

I'd only use the green period. None of that universal stuff either that's supposed to mix with any color. Definitely don't ever mix colors.

I have used both (no mixing) and have noticed no difference. The red is supposed to last longer but I never seem to go long enough without a blown hose or something that requires draining the system to find out how long it lasts. I would just use the normal green stuff. it is cheaper and available everywhere.

Check the jug and make sure that it is for a diesel. Coolant designed for diesels have a higher resistance to cavitation that can occur in the cooling jacket.
