hoosier,if this flatbed you're planning is custom, one would need some custom pre-requisites. iv'e built several wood flatbeds on fords, and every one was different, hence the term "custom". it all depends on what purpose the bed is to be built to fulfill. i used to be a mechanic/maintenance supervisor at a peat harvesting operation here in northern minnesota, and we purchased a 78 ford f150 with a 300i6 for use as a "bog truck". the box was pretty "hatched out", as we say up here(rusted beyond reasonable repair)so i removed it and fabricated a flatbed from treated lumber. i also have a ranger(post '83)that my step-son rolled and subsequently had to fabricate a wooden flatbed for. the one i designed for the bog truck was significantly different than the one that i did on the ranger. point is, if it's plans you're looking for, you need to make known what purpose the bed is to serve. there are many ways to go about it. i'd be happy to share my experiences with you. post your specs and i'll get back to you.
