howdy ya'll im just thinkin out loud here and i dont plan on taking any action any time soon, i was bored and wanted to know what you think. ive got a 97 4x4 off road extended cab. the bed on it isnt really in that bad of shape, but i thought that once im out of college, i may want to replace it. i was thinking like maybe an aluminum flat bed like this one http://hillsboroindustries.com/Photo...Bed1-2PGLG.jpg . first does anyone know how thes mount to the frame? do they use facory bolt locations? and does anyone have something like this on their 150 or even ld250? is this a stupid idea? any and all input is apriciated. and if you have pics, lets see them!! im especially interested in the short bed trucks regular or extended cab.
this truck is used to drive to college so i probably wont do this for a year or two. all of my time outside of school is on the farm, so this would have a practical side as well as looking cool.
speaking from one farmer to another i havn't seen a lot of half tons with a flatbed on them i suppose it would look alright that aluminum is nice lookin, one thing is it would lower your insurance, as far as mounthing is i know on a steel bed the installer builds there own brackets and mounts it to the frame not to the original bed mounts. Good luck!
haha thanks. yea i havent seen many half tons with flat beds. i think it would have to be the right truck and the right bed but i like the idea of a flat bed. the one im looking at is 7'x7' and is 400 pounds so i think it should fit just fine.... i just dont want it to look goofy. so hopefully i can find some pics.. also thanks for the info about mounting, ive never had to have it done, and didnt know if i could just bolt it on myself or not.
dude your a farmer sure you can bolt it on your self lol, i guess i do know a guy that has a deweze bale bed on his 1/2 z71 ex cab it dosn't look to bad. would like to see some pics of your truck. Good luck
haha right you are there. lets just say i was hoping it would be as straight forward as bolting on a stock pick up bed. but you are right i could definately make it work. and if i manage to find the right deal ill post some pictures.
