I just purchased a 04 F350 dually with dump. 26k mileage on it for my landscape business. I did know the previous owner and he had no issues with it.
Reading thise forums I get both scared and hopefull with some of the posts. What would be the major maintaince things to do and when. It had the oil changed when I bought it. My useage would be very light with it.....maybe 5k a year and occasional towing.
Also the truck seems to getting around 11mpg. I was hoping for more. Is this about right? Thanks.

Your fluids and filters are going to be a big deal. Do them right and do them on time. Use only factory filters. I would go with a synthetic oil(I use mobil 1).
Since you are only doing occasional towing and putting on ~5k a year in miles, I would be very aware of how you drive it. Don't idle for long periods of time, every now and then when the truck has gotting to operating temp, romp on it(if conditions are appropriate for that type of stuff). These girls on pretty finicky with how you treat them, so you do have to be more aware of all that you do with them.
If you have 4.30 gears(which is possible with the configuration that you mentioned), then I would actually say that's alright for that truck. Terrain and driving habits will bring that up or down, but all in all that's within the ball park for that type of truck.
