351w upgrades

i bought some d0oe heads for my 84 351w, the heads are just that, just the heads, what else do i need to buy aside from gaskets. i think i need lifters pushrods springs anything else? where is the best deal for you money on these? not trying to blow a lot of money, just upgrade. also i was told i should probably upgrade the camshaft as well while im at it, anyone know of any ones that work well with the d0oe and best for you money. Also i bought some headers from summit for a 351w, the paper that came with them said they would fit most 351w up to the 77, now being an 84 windsor am i going to run into some problems? also i was told the heads i bought dont need to be ported. and i have noticed that the gaskets for them are in ported sizes, what size do i need for mine?thanks for any advice

You will need different pushrods, as the 70 heads have different rockers from the 84 heads. You will probably also need to have to upgrade to hardened valve seats in the heads, since we no longer have leaded gas. Also, headers are usually specified by vehicle application, not just engine size.

I think those headers are made to fit the same type of unibody chassis that the old Mustangs/Mavericks/Falcons were built on. Note that they also recommend you get a power steering ram re-locater with it, which was what was used on these types of cars. This may or may not work on your truck; you won't know until you get it and try it. But I would look for a header made specifically for your 1977 F100.

I think your best bet for headers is 302 headers for that F100, they didn't put the 351w in those rigs, 302 ones should be close enough to get ya started.

I know for a fact that Ford motorsport shorty headers for a 87-93 mustang fit just fine on a 351w 77 f-100. That's what I put in my truck

That's one of the most commonly available parts today, due to the popularity of the late model Mustang, and how many owners like to modify them. Check at Summit Racing; they have a bunch in difference sizes and quality levels.

You can find the Motorsport headers at a lot of Ford dealerships. The ones I bought were from Tommie Vaughn Ford in Houston
