closed chamber heads

from what i have gathered the primary advantage to the closed chamber 4v cleveland heads is to raise compression. but flow suffers due to the valves being shrouded. is it worth it to attempt to unshroud them? or better to just buy an open chamber aftermarket set? any info or thoughts? thanks

The closed chambered heads will increase the compression while lowering detonation and are hands down better than the open chambers. Flow really isn't a problems with these heads. I wasn't aware of an open chambered aftermarket head I think the all use a quench design.

the flow is slightly better with open chambers but the overall package is better with closed chamber.

MPG Heads makes port plates for the heads that gives you more horsepower and improve the flow. The quench chamber head are the way to go for more power.
