Well, after many hours of cleaning and organizing the family's shop today and yesterday, this evening I took the engine apart down to the block to see what condition it's in.
Well, looking at the pistons I decided there was no way the stroke I was seeing was 3 inches, so took out a measuring tape, and sure enough it was just under 4 inches! Which means this IS the original engine (Most likely, haha) But it is in dire need of a rebuild, you can catch your finger, not just the nail, on the ring at the top, can't think of the name of it, and needs all new gaskets, and some other miscellaneous parts, but we'll see what happens!
I have a 300- 6 on an engine stand right now that i bought for 150.00 , the feller said he bought it as a rebuild from a shop but it never seated so it has no compression. he was so disgusted with it he bought a new motor, so i'm hoping all i have to do is hone it and rering it. what cubic in. would your engine be if you bored it 30 thousance.?dutch
Can't think of the name of it....? It's called a ridge and you need a ridge reamer to get the piston out, BE careful if you try to remove it yourself. the first one i did it ruined the block!
Oh no Bill, I'm not gonna rebuild this one right now, it'll sit until I have some money, and I'll use this 240 from you, I happen to have those gaskets it needs already!
And When I do rebuild it, I'll probably have a shop do the boring and piston work, and then I'll probably put it together myself.

A stock 300 works out to 299.9328.
A 30 over 300 works out to 304.6037
cubic inches is 1/2 of bore (2.015 for a 30 over 300) squared x stroke (3.98) x PI ( I used it out to four places 3.1416) times # of cylinders.
