"I have a 1999 Ford F350 7.3 Diesel. While driving down the road the truck completely dies. Typically will start right back up. Cam sensors have been changed and computer shows no errors. Problem occurs appox. 4-6 times a year. Has anyone else expierenced similar problems or have any suggestions? "
I recieved a lot of good suggestions regarding replacing the CPS sensor. Ordered one from Navistar which turned out to be gray exactly like the one we replaced. Truck died again this morning when i tried to restart, the service engine light would blink one time and i heard a clicking noise; truck would not re-fire. Finally the service light went back to normal and the Truck fired back up. Should i try to find a black sensor? Any suggestions appreciated.
No, searching for a black CPS is a waste of time. They haven't made any for quite some time (Ford or IH brand). The gray one won't cause stalling issues, just some rough idle issues and maybe some codes.
If the CEL came on, do you know what codes are stored in the PCM? Did you have any codes before? What have you done besides changing the sensor? Checked any wires for shorts?
When plugged in at the dealer; no codes were found. Also have double checked all wires for shorts or loose connections; none found. Truck does have a "Superchip" could this be related to the issue in any way?
Well lets start over again. How does the truck stall? Sputter and kick or like someone turned the key off? When it won't restart, do you hear the fuel pump come on with the key? Does the WTS light function properly? Any smoke out the tailpipe while cranking? No codes at all were found, or no meaningful codes? What wiring harnesses have you checked? IPR? CPS? IPC? Main engine harness? Over drivers front shock? Inside steering column? Any chip / tuner in the truck? Tired of me asking questions yet?
Disable the Superchip and see if you can duplicate the problem. Rule of thumb, always rule out tuners and chips when diagnosing these kinds of problems.

Dies just like turning the key off. I do hear the fuel pump come on. The WTS light does function properly. No smoke out the tailpipe. No codes were found. Have NOT checked inside the steering column. There is a "Superchip" in the truck that was installed by previous owner. i have owned for 6 years.
This sounds just like my truck. Except my truck shuts off 6 times on the way to work. Yesterday it ran fine. There is a relay that I hear clicking everytime my truck shuts off. I have changed my CPS twice, a mechanic did it once and Ford did it once. I'll try it again, but I think I need a different source.
I just had the same problem ,my chip was bad is yours a hard chip or programmer if it is a hard chip take it out and try it ....it fixed mine now I have to buy a new chip cant decide what to do.I am not sayin this is going to fix it forsure but this is the 3rd superchip I have had go bad ..I have never had the programmer go bad though .....
