I recently moved in to the world of old trucks. It is my first truck and it is by design a labor of love. The person I purchased it from has told me the following: 1967 F100 Ranger (has the name plates on the body and grill to substantiate this); small block V8 (302?) that is not original; whether the transmission is original or not is not known (probably not!).
My question(s) is this: Where can I get a listing for the serial numbers off of the engine? And are the numbers on the back of the manifold the only set of numbers that are on the engine?
Help me out if you can and would. Thanks in advance. Paul
You will find a the Engine Identification #s on the passenger side of the motor, right above the starter, you might have to scrape some oil and grease off. But they are there. Your shoult srart with D1OE, witch is 1971, D- represents 70, and one, well 1. Well hope this helps.
The numbers behind the starter will be a casting code and a date code. For example a 302 I just looked at today had the following: C8OE-6015-A with a date code of 24. The only thing I can tell you for sure that my particular block was built on April 24, 1968. The casting codes don't translate as easily as you might think. There should be a vin serial number stamped on a flat surface area on the top rear of the block just behind where the intake seals. That number represents the vehicle the engine was installed in originally. Post what you find and we'll see what it all means. BTW -- I have vin codes for 67 trucks on my site if your interested. Just out of curiousity what is it your trying to find out about this engine?
If you are trying to find out what the original engine was, the serial number tag on the back edge of the drivers door will have the engine and transmission code letters on it; these can be decoded with a shop manual or at Stockmans' web site. If yours is an early production 67, there should be a metal tag stapled to the cowl at the base of the hood with the same info on it. A shop manual will translate your serial number into a production date. Another way to find out when it was built would be to check your window date codes(ie- L 7 would be Nov. 67). These codes will be within a month or two of the actual build date. Hope this helps.
