I have a 300 that supposedly came out of a 74 van. The head has tubes inserted above the exhaust ports, passing through the head and into the ports---what the heck are these? Whoever worked on this motor, prior to me, filled the tops of these tubes with what appears to be brass, so essentially they are useless. Any clues?
I have a 67 f-100 with an il6 300"
I had a long tube that went down the whole length of the head. This was for the hod air pump. I think it was a form of smog/ cleaner burning...
An air pump forced hot air over the piston to get a cleaner burn. I removed mine as it was nolonger required. I put in brass plugs is each of the six holes on the cornner of the head. I thibk it was above the intake an exast manifolds... I seems to be a cleaner setup now, more room too.
