Went for a drive
Finally got the tags today and went for a drive to the store and a fill up. I think the PO has removed the thermostat or at least gutted it for the temp never got to the normal range. It has lots of get up and go but I can see the need for an overdrive on the interstate. What sort of mileage can I expect with the 302 and manual 3 speed? So far I have just south of $700 in the truck.

isnt that so much fun! i took mine out the other nite for a nice drive, its been like 2 weeks. yeah true that on the overdrive. i think these things were made to tow cattle at 55 mph back then and not meant to do 75 mph.

With electronic ign, a small carb 500 cfm or so good rear ratio combo 15-18 maybe, with OD 20-23.
These ol trucks have no areo, they are like pushing a brick down the road.
