[COLOR=black][FONT=Verdana]Hello, I have a 2000 V10 with 74,000 miles. Today I was driving along at about 45 MPH, and experienced a violent vibration. It was like when you hit those ridges on the edge of the highway, but about 5 times worse. It happened 3 more times on the way home. Can anyone tell me what to start checking? Thanks
Sounds like your lugs are loose or your loosing a wheel bearing. Did it effect the steering wheel? Did it feel like it was coming from the rear? Could also be a universal joint getting ready to go. If it didn't feel like the wheels then I would lay under the truck and look at and wiggle the drive shaft to check the universal.
It's kind of hard to describe, but it was loud. Really the best I can compare it to is the ridges they have on the edge of the highway to wake you up if your drifting over. It was like that, but under every tire, and maybe 2-3x as intense. I don't know how it affected steering because I stopped. slowing down did not help, I had to stop completely. Then it was gone. Same thing happened 3 more times. I was reading some other threads, and I also have a lot of additional clunking so I was planning on replacing a few things, but this is new, and seems a lot more serious.
Check front wheel bearings. Mine did this a couple of times. It would start for no reason and then go away. Only thing I could find wrong with it was bad wheel bearings. HTH!!!
