79F150 ENGINE REMOVAL

I have a 351m in my 79 f150 4WD that I want to remove and take to my friends machine shop so he can rebuild it. After looking in to it, how can the engine/ transmission ( manual floor shifted 4 speed) be divorced to allow easy engine removal ? The bell housing is solid looking with no access to be able to remove the pressure plate from the flywheel, and will the whole transmission and transfer case have to be removed to lift the engine? thanks for any info,

You'll want to unbolt and remove the transmission first then pull the motor. What tools do you have to work with? An engine lift and floor jack are a must. A few knowledgeable friends never hurt either. Did I mention beer?

Have you ever pulled a motor before? It is kinda hard to explain without a very long post. Maybe the viability of your success can be better explained by someone less prone to verbose verbiage.

To seperate your flexplate from torque converter remove the small dust shield cover on the bottom of the large dust shield. From there you can access the torque converter bolts (also the drain plug) unbolt that portion. There should be six other bolts on the bell housing to the engine along with the ones on the starter. Removed those and you should have all the bolts connecting the transmissions bell housing to the engine...NOTE: Don't lose these bolts! (see my previous post) Then there this is woost of other stuff to remove before you can actually lower/back the tranny out. BTW this job is easier with two people - A LOT EASIER!
