2000 f150. 4x4 122,000 miles. Truck make a knock or clunk sound when I go over bumps. Its comming from the front of the truck. I dont think its the tie rod ends, they were just replaced this summer and it wont make the sound just by turning the steering wheel. Seems to have something to do with up and down movement of the truck.
what else could this be? Dont know where to start.
I would point a finger at your ball joints. I'm having the same problem but it's not every bump it's the little ones and I came to the conclusion that my shocks are reaching the edge of their travel and clunking since cranking the torsion bars.
Check your sway bar links as well. The links connect the sway bar to the lower A-arms and they like to break. When your suspension travels, it hits the broken link and obviously makes a noise.
Just an idea as that's what happened to my truck. I just removed the entire sway bar from my truck. The end links are cheap and the replacements are made of metal (stock was plastic iirc)...something like $12 I thought...
Thanks alot guys! It is the stabilizer bar link. Sweet! Thats a cheep fix. I would have never thought to look there but after taking a look its quite obvious that that is the problem.
While you are looking at the end links, there may be play in the physic sway bar due to the end links being faulty. Check and replace the sway bar bushings. They aren't too expensive either.
