Can anyone recommend a place to purchase one and what type would I need for a 97 Expy?

Any large parts store should carry it. They were around $150 when I bought mine last year. I needed an OBD 2 scanner for my 98. I think if you have a data plug under the dash that's what you'll need also.

Of course you could always go to Autozone and have it scanned any time for free. I've had them do it several times with good success.
