where can I get these bolts

I need to find the bolts that are used in the front double-cardan drive shaft of a 89 F350. These are the blots that fix the double-cardan u-joint to the yolk at the t-case... I went to ford and they want 25 bucks a piece for them! that's a hundred bucks for 4 bolts!!! Any one have any ideas on where they might be available.

You guys got a Napa in Canukistan? The ones around here usually stock almost any size Grade 8 bolt youd ever need. They should be able to hook you up with a replacement bolt.

Look around at auto part stores. Like Cheeto just said, Napa usually has them. You might look around for a bolt place. There is one about ten miles from my house, and if you don't find what you need, they can make you it.

ACE hardware carries just about any grade 8 or metric 10.8 bolt you need. Fastenal (not sure on the spelling) carries a wide assortment of bolts. Some Graniger (sp?) stores do too, though they require an account.

Thanxs for the replies guys... I don't have the old bolts so I have no idea what they are supposed to look like... But i can say that it looked like they would have to be a very specific bolt with a small head like maybe an allen head and shouldered. That's why I thought I'd ask here.

Ya we got NAPA up here in canuckastan... and paved roads too! LMAO!!!

I'm going to see if I can find some at the bolt store... thanxs

IIRC the ones on my trucks with CV fronts were like 12 point bolts. Id take the shaft with you so they can try to thread bolts into it.

I just got regular bolts. plane ole 1/2" headed bolts. 5/16- 24 thread. so super fine threaded. Go to napa and go in the bolt section and find four. They go right in.

You DONT need a specialty bolt. I can take pictures of mine if ya dont believe me

I believe ya...just that looking at my shaft I cant see a 1/2'' head working.

a 12 point is what I've heard them to be. but I think if I found an Allen head or torx head it probably would work. It looks like it has to be a pretty small head as there isn't much room for a standard head. My bolts thread into the yolk on the t\c

I'm going to a place locally that has a big assortment of specialty blots... all the other places I've gone to including napa didn't have the right ones...

If your truck is a 1991 or there around and the original came with a 12 point head, I think it probably is a metric bolt, 8mm.

You should be able to find those bolts in the Help section at any decent parts store(Bumper to Bumper in my case.) IIRC the ones we picked up for my buddy's 86 were packaged as being for a GM, but they were the right ones.

25 bucks for a 2 dollar bolt...i really think some dealership parts guys are lining their pockets with money from suckers....because SOME people would think that is the only place to get that bolt.....go to the hardware store, spend 65 cents on ONE of the bolts that gearhead251 mentioned, then see if it fits...if not your out less than a buck, if it does, go buy more...and use some friggin locktite on em so they dont fall out again!!!

I keep saying this.... I regular head bolt will not work... I went to all the local auto parts stores and they have a fine selection of bolts but none that fit... the head has to be very small in relation to a standard bolt. The c/v is a much different mount to the t/c than a standard d/s.

I bought the 89F350 for parts for my truck... the D60 axle and d/shaft are for of an 89... my truck is a 91. the d/shaft was already pulled when i bought the truck and the seller didn't have the old bolts. I can change it back to a standard d/shaft with out the c/v... I have the d/s and the yolk on the t/c... just like having the c/v.

Thanxs for the replies again... I talked to an old friend at a local auto parts store and he says he can special order any bolt I need as long as he has the dimensions... still going to cost me about 5 bucks a bolt though!
