TV Cable does not feel right

TV Cable does not feel right
Hi to all,
Do any of you know if there is any way to know if the cable is broken on the inside here is my problem,
I went under the van & gently pushed on the cable back & forth & it feels like its binding a little, it does'nt get stuck mind you but it does'nt move smoothly back & forth..
After I did this the transmission was giving me less of a "BANG" between 3rd & 4th which I read has to do with the TV Cable adjustment but at the throtle plate the cable has no slack so I'm thinking maybe the cable is broken on the inside or one of the springs is loose or broken...
If I need to buy a new one do any of you know where?
I think these cables are obsolete but maybe some of you know if other newer Fords use them
