clutch pedal was acting funny for a little bit and now it's giving me problems.
it started out feeling a little light. it wasn't as stiff as normal. now it's really light and doesn't get stiff til the end. the master cylinder isn't leaking and the hydrolic line to the transmission isn't leaking. the only fluid leaking from the truck is oil.
i went out to move the truck today (I haven't driven it in about 5 days) and when i tried to put it into reverse it didn't want to go and the gear did grind when i forced it in. it didn't bring engine rpms down, though. I decided not to move the truck because i was afraid i'd get stuck in the road.
i looked in the cab at theh pedal assembly, but i don't really know what i'm lookingn for. everything seems fine to me. maybe it slipped off the spring that's down there? I have no idea.
what are the symptoms of the slave cylinder freezing up?
I have no idea what could be wrong at this point. any help is greatly appreciated!
Look at the plastic bushing/retainer where the pedal shaft bell crank meets the eye of the master cylinder pushrod.
Next, open the hood and watch the master cylinder as someone else pushes the clutch pedal.

I guess I should have mentioned this. I have done this and the master cylinder does not move on the firewall.
Is it VERY cold where you are in Illinois?
The Orings can get stiff and won't seal
Does the pedal return to the top of its stroke normally?
it has been very cold. it dipped into below zero pretty much the entire time the truck sat, but it was about 20 degrees when i tried to move it yesterday.
the pedal returns to the top, but not strong like it used it. it kinda limps back up.
Id check the slave as well. I had an S10 with an internal slave. I was having problems with my clutch so I just tightend it and luckly it fixed the problem. Now my 88 has an external slave so its a little easier to deal with as far as that goes.
