thanks for the link. i have some questions now.lol ok. first, this link and all of the other posts i found pertain to the 99 and up trucks. is the switch removal the same for the 97 98 trucks? also what does splicing the white and black number 5 with the brown number 12 accomplish? that was one thing i didnt really get. and will the wiring be the same for the 97 98? i have a 97. i have an - off, park, on- switch next to a dash dimmer switch, next to an auto light dimmer switch. what wiring does this configuration affect? oh i never use the auto function and have it shut off. i just want fogs with park and with high beams. mostly with high beams. does the number 5 to 12 splice do this? thanks for any help. ok one of them said its number 2 to 12??

the brown wire is the power wire for the parking lights. the white and black wire goes straight to the fog light relay. when you turn the parking lights on, the fog lights come on.

thanks. so if i do the electrical mod, then i do not have to take the switch apart correct? or if i take the switch apart i dont have to do the electrical mod. is this correct? also, the parking lights are always on once you turn on the lights, so by doing the wire splice then the fogs would be on with the brights correct? the only downside i can see is that the fogs would always be on (with the lights on), which is ok with me since thats how i drive all of the time any way. so basically what im asking is, is my logic correct?

no, you must modify the switch AND splice the two wires. you modify the switch so that you can pull the **** out to turn the fog lights on with the parking lights. the fog lights also stay off until the **** is pulled out. heres a link that will help you better understand. How to modify the Headlight Switch to allow Fog Lamps to come on with Parking lights and Autolamps

thanks. i get how that works now, but if i am correct that still wont get you the fog+highbeam combo that i really want. to do this i would have to do some slick wiring around the multifunction switch. it seems to me that for my application, the best thing to do would be to put in a separate toggle for the fogs, one that bypassed the multifunction switch. does anyone have a wiring diagram of the lights for a 97? also is trying this going to be a huge pita?

I ended up finally getting around to putting some "pilot" brand lights (6" round) behind my front grill. I think it looks great now. Definetly adds more light now whenever you need it. I ended up putting in a 30 amp relay, so that way the lights get the real 12volts!!

I've been wanting to do that to my truck as well. How much were the lights? Was it an easy install? Any pictures?

These are on my list to do. They're all relatively cheap.

- Paint the windshield wipers
- Paint Exterior Plastic Parts(Krylon Paint)
- Replace dashboard backing lights with colored leds
- Install lights behind grille
- Fog Light Switch Mod
- Inside/Outside Temp sensor
- More cigarette lighter accessory slots
- Sand and buff headlights

Post your cheap or free modifications you've done, or want to do.
For example upgrades with junkyard parts from newer trucks, or other vehicles. Hardware store upgrades, etc..

Gott's intake mod... I've done it, plus removed the silencer in the tube and noticed a little more power up higher in the rpm's. Also more noise at WOT.

Going to install another 12V outlet on the drivers side in the rear. Why they only put one in the passenger side, I'll never know.
Trying to figure out where to put cup holders in the rear of my supercrew where my kids in carseats can actually reach them.

Really would like to silence the seatbelt alarm... it's annoying having it dinging at me while I get the kids situated in the backseat while the truck is warming up, or while we're sitting and reading a map and I haven't buckled up yet.
All you have to do it ether cut or remove plug under both drivers and passengers seat. The dinging will be gone for good, unless you plug the plug back together or rewire it back.

I was also curious on how to make the fog lights come on whenever and to make them stay on with the hi-beams. The only solution I got is to hold the wiper controller back but they won't stay on on their own. I see so many trucks out there when it's just dusk out and they have only the stock fog lights on. I want to do that.
Try this link. Did mine and work like champ. Good luck

Brown wire is output for the Parking lights and will not yield your desired result. To get Fog+HighBeam, you'll have to cut the Red/Black wire from the fog light fuse (do it at Splice #S244). It might help to unbolt the fuse panel for better access at the back to un-tape the harness. To identify where the splice is, look for a Red/Black wire that splits to feed Fuses #26, 27 and 28. #27 is the Fog light fuse, the one you want to separate. From here, you can do it two different ways:

For Fog+Low or HighBeam, re-route the Red/Black wire from the Fog Light Fuse and splice it into the Red/Yellow wire anywhere between the Main Switch and Dimmer Switch.

If you want to have the Fog lights work independently of the other lights (like I do ), the Red/Black wire from the fog light fuse gets cut and then spliced into the Main Switch power feed (Dark Blue/Orange). This bypasses the Headlight/Parking light switch entirely so your fog lights can be on anytime you want them to be. Make sure that you leave the Dimmer Switch connected to the Low Beam Fuses and only separate the wire running back to the Fog light fuse.

This leaves only the switch's internal 'ramp' to enable/disable the fogs, but that's already well covered by now
