400 external indentification

I was told that you could tell the difference between a 351M and a 400 by looking at the number of bolts holding the valve covers on. The 351M I was told has 3 and the 400 has 4. Is this true?? If it is I will be tickled ford blue because I have been wanting a 400. By the way, I used to post with the name Fordman but someone had that name taken by the time I registered. Thanks

400 external indentification

From what I have always seen and been told this would not be true. The valve covers for my 400 have 8 bolts. Most catalogs cross list the 351C, 351M, and 400M.
