I need a door for the drivers side of my '79 f250 and would like to know if you can or "should" replace the skin on the outside of the door, or would it be easier and cheaper to just buy one. How much should I expect to pay for a used door and just the door. I can use all of the stuff from my old door. Can anyone tell me the name of the place in Oklahoma where you can buy ford parts. It is Dane something. Phone number and web address would be great if you know it. Thanks.
The only place I know of in Oklahoma is Obsolete Ford Parts. Unless you're doing a restoration, you might want to steer clear of them as they tend to be a little spendy.
I'm sorry, I did not understand the gist of the answers...
probably my fault...
How does one get a "door skin" off a door?
(It looks like a lot of work to me...)
What is a "door shell"?
I can get an entire door for $135 at a junkyard.
From what's posted here, it sounds as if that
is too much, and I should have gotten a quote
of $50-100. Now that is the entire door,
not the door skin. I could not figure out an easy
way to get a door skin off a door, at least
at the far end of a junk yard where they don't
allow power tools. Am I missing something?
Holy crap! I found a door for mine at a local yard and offered the lady $30 for it. She gave it to me, no problem.
Personally, I would find a whole door. Be prepared to cuss and spit while working with the rods and such if you have to replace the guts of the door. Even the keyed lock was a pain in the bum.
Maybe I just have big hands or something, but it really was not fun at all.

The door price I was quoted was from a junk yard very close
to a Pick N Pull. When I asked, they said: "You are here
because you did not find it at Pick N Pull. We do not compete
with them." So I went to Pick N Pull and found doors
and fenders priced at $45. At least, I got a fender for $45.
So one lesson I learned is that prices can vary greatly,
even among junkyards which are right next to each other.
Thanks for the tip, UglyF250. I'll probably go along the lines
you suggest unless there is some new surprise info.
