When installing the 460 into my 77 f250 4x4 is it easier to install if I mount the bellhousing to the tranny and then install the engine, or is it easier to install the engine with the bellhousing already attached?
I am just trying to work it out in my head, it seems like the engine will have to slide back onto the trannys input shaft, but if the perches dont have slots then how would it slide back?
Mount the bellhousing to the trans first. The clutch and pressure plate will be bolted to the flywheel on the engine. The throwout bearing will be in place on the transmission snout with the throwout fork engaged. You will align the motor to the bellhousing, pilot bearing and bolt together.
You need to elevate the transmission so that the engine is free to slide back into the transmission above the perches, then once engaged lowered into place.

You dont put it in the perches till after there connected. You gotta jack the front of the tranny up and put the motor in at an angle
