While everyone is thinking gas tanks...

I was just wondering if there was a way to get rid of the behind the seat tank in my 72? I would like to replace it with one between the rear frame rails like the newer trucks. I guess this is the main reason Ford widened there rear frame in 75. Mine is the narrow stile, 34". Any ideas?

Craig, Yours is a much batted about question that arises often on this list. I don't think that there is a clear answer for you. You might have to get creative, and I'm sure that you will come up with something. Share it with us when you do.

You might try a tank that is designed for a '75 highboy. I think a frame tank is available for them, and they have the 34" frame. Ill check my JC Whitney tonight.

I know Ford put gas tanks between the 'rails on some 1973 trucks. My dad has a 1973 F350 super camper special that had a big 'ol tank there - right from Ford's factory. He took it out (was leaking) and gained ground clearance.

try a 78 or 79 Bronco tank, they are narrower than the truck tanks. you can get the small (25 gal) or big (33 gal) tank.

I took a side-mount out of my 68 F250 that had a lot of sludge and varnish inside that I can't get out. I'm not 100% positive, but it looks identical to two (different manufactuers) tanks listed in JC Whitney's 2000 catalog for 73-78 full-size Ford trucks. If it is not exact, I'm sure minor fabrication would fix situation.
