Okay, we can start off by saying I'm definitely not the smartest car shopper in the world. I was dumb enough to buy my first diesel without properly educating myself on diesels and higher-than-low grade maintenance. Having said that, here's my problem. I have an 06 F20 with teh 6.0. As it's been driving fine, with no problems starting. I stop at a fuel station and put a few bucks in. I go to crank it and all it would do is turn over. Never would bust off. Not even attempt to bust off. I've checked the fuel pump and it's pumping. I've checked to see if the fuel filters were clogged and fuel is getting through like a champ(or so I think so). I don't believe it would be the glow plugs because when I turned it off to put fuel in it, the engine didn't have near enough time to cool off for it to not bust off. However, on the secondary fuel filter on the engine, the cap has a tiny lil slit in the cap that appears to me to be very factory cause there's two more at the bottom of the theads, opposite sides of each other. And this particular slit is above the threads on the part where it is exposed right between the cap and housing. And when I had someone turn the key on, fuel was spitting out of that slit. There's no crack in the cap or anything. The o-ring is in tact. The engine has oil pressure casue when I turn the engine over for a few seconds, the oil pressure gage kicks up to normal. The lil loop-d-loop light on the dash comes on and off as it should. No code lights on the dash. Everything on the dash appears to be normal. I hear that the injector system is ran by the oil pressure. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you!
Lots of things it could be, but leaking fuel is not good, and is an obvious problem. There are not supposed to be any slits or splits in that cap. So I think you either have a damaged cap, or some of the will-fit filters come with a replacement cap and that's a bad thing too.
A picture of the cap and the leaking area might help.
If you get any air in the fuel system, like might happen with a poorly fitting cap, these beasts can be very hard to start. That's one reason why we should never let them run out of fuel.
