Maybe its just me but my pickup loves to run fast, even pulling a load. I never stay in the slow lane, I'll cruise at 80 all day long with 4:10's. My 5th wheel weights 15K and I still go 75 with it. My motor will get the boost up quicker and it will dig in and just go if I'm going fast. If I'm going slow, it just takes longer for everything to wind up. I don't buy the 'engine will not last' at higher RPM's talk. Run good oil, tires, etc. and your just fine. Death can occur at 65 as easy as at 80.
The fastest I've pulled my 5th wheel was when I was west of Salt Lake City on the salt flats. After 100 miles or so I couldn't stand it any more so I kicked it up to 80. Flat, straight, no wind, boring and a beautiful road. My boost was only about 5psi, rpm's about 2,700, 14 ply tires on the 5th wheel, all temps on my gauges were normal. Yes, if something went wrong my wife and I would have been toost. But at 65 we would have also been toost. JMHO
That is so true Glenn. I have been on that highway many times. I just don't like hearing the motor at that rpm. It is probably ok, I just don't like it.
