302 Questions...
I have a few questions about my 302. I have a 79' f100 stepside with a 4speed manual trans out of an 84 f150. im looking for a little more power than i have. I have a 'brock 600 cfm carb and h/o intake, dyna headders (i think thats the brand its a cheaper brand) reg plugs, wires, and coil. The truck has the original 9'' and gears(no clue what it came factory with.) but i recently came across a early 90' fox that was wrapped around a tree(looks like it hurt a lot) it has a strong 5.0 and 5 speed tranny. would it be benifical to do a total swap (my 302 is a jasper reman w/ 55k on it.) motor and tranny or just tranny? the mustang is fuel injected and my 302 is carb is F/I better than a carb? Anyone know what motor is stronger? I am not using this truck as a hauler its going to be mostly looks and sound! the entire wire harness is shot as well. The P/I "tried" installing Auto Meter gauges... I patched the wiring so it is driveable but plan on buying a complete from painless. that being said swap both or just tranny? anyone know what gears i should go with on the rear end with the t5? thanks for the info guys
The Stang 5.0 will have better heads and more cam than your truck motor if it was built to '79 specs, but if it wasn't then the only power producing difference is the cam and you could get more power from your existing motor just with a bigger cam. That said an EFI 5.0 would certainly look trick in that truck and perform well, Painless also makes a EFI retrofit harness to put that motor into older vehicles if you didn't want to tackle removing the harness from the mustang.
