oil weight

My wife just got an 02 explorer, its in excellent shape but has a lot of miles, it has 188,xxx was wondering what weight oil to run, it says 5w-30 I think but was told it may be better to run 10w-30 with the miles thats on it. Whats everyones opinion.

Stick with the 5w20 or 5w30.

Like what has been suggested, stay with what is reccomended and change it at regular intervals like usual and it should be good to keep going.

A lot of miles, I wonder if it is the 4.0 V6, and if the transmission is still original with no issues.

Stick with the Ford spec weight.

Thanks guys, yes it is a 4.0 and I dont know if the tranny has been changed or not.
